FAQ

  • We ship throughout the U.S. with rates starting at just $6.95. (See chart below). We partner with Sendle 100% carbon-neutral shipping to limit our environmental impact. Orders are fulfilled quickly and shipped USPS Priority or Ground, which means they typically arrive in 2-8 business days from the date of purchase. We also offer $0-$6.95 Bellingham door delivery (depending on zip code) and free local pickup.

Please confirm that your recipient’s address is correct. We cannot be responsible for boxes that are shipped or delivered to incorrect or incomplete addresses.

  • We do not offer international shipping at this time. While we love the idea of sharing our local goods across the globe, it simply contradicts our core mission of supporting local commerce and minimizing carbon emissions.

  • We are very happy to offer free or low cost door delivery in Bellingham city limits. If you choose local delivery, your gift will be hand delivered (by us) to the recipient’s home or office. If no one is there to receive the gift, it will be left at the door.. Please do not choose this option if you are unsure whether the recipient will be around the same day to retrieve the gift. We cannot be responsible for gifts that are left at the doors of multi-unit complexes or left out overnight.

  • Due to the nature of our product, we cannot accept returns or changes to fulfilled orders; however, we will certainly work with you to replace damaged goods should they occur during shipping. Your satisfaction is our top priority, so please contact us with any questions or concerns.

  • Being carbon neutral means keeping your net release of CO2e (CO2 equivalent) into the atmosphere at zero. Basically, whatever CO2e is emitted in the shipping process is canceled out by a process known as 'offsetting’. Offsetting is a financial contribution to support projects that reduce emissions, like regenerating precious forests, replacing old equipment with more efficient technology, or even training communities in beekeeping! Read more about it here.

  • That depends. First of all, sales tax is applied only to boxes shipped to a Washington State address, so if you are shipping outside of Washington State, your gift will be tax-free. (All the more reason to share far and wide!) Secondly, majority food-based curated boxes are tax free no matter where they ship. For all other curated and custom boxes, you will see a breakdown of applicable taxes at checkout.

  • Oh so much! Our gifts are about as local as it gets, sourced primarily from a 60-mile radius of our home base in Bellingham, WA. That means they don’t travel far to reach us, saving on packaging and transport emissions. Our items are mostly plant-based and/or organic, wildcrafted and/or sustainably sourced, small-batch and/or handcrafted. Individual product packaging is recyclable, reusable or compostable as much as possible. Our boxes are elegant in their simplicity (we do not double box!) with a focus on recycled and recyclable packaging and zero waste. Plus we use 100% carbon-neutral shipping. Oh, and did we mention we give 3% of our proceeds to local social and environmental causes? Rest assured that your gift from us will reflect your values.

  • If you’re wanting to gift four or more boxes, please call us to help you pull together a custom order. You may choose from our curated options, or we can help you design the perfect custom gift box. Depending on the numbers needed, we may require 1-2 weeks to secure inventory. Contact us for more information and help getting started.

  • We love working with local businesses and nonprofits! Business gifting offers a simple way to extend gratitude to clients, partners, and employees in a meaningful way. Our business clients are as varied as our products and include designers, manufacturers, schools, and real estate agents. Contact us to learn more.

  • You may place an order without and account, but if you have an account with us, you will be prompted for your login email and password at checkout. If you forget your password, the only way to change it is through the account page link in the website header - next to the shopping cart. Go back to the home page and click on the account icon -next to the shopping cart icon - and look for the prompt “Forgot password?”. A link to change your password will then be emailed to you.

Madrona’s Roots

The madrona tree is native to the Pacific Northwest. This beloved species with its striking colors and versatile bark and berries has long offered sustenance, curatives, and shelter to peoples and animals. The madrona is rooted principally in the coastal Pacific due to a complex interdependence between her roots and the coastal soil. She is the perfect symbol of interconnectivity between all living things in the Salish Coast.

Madrona Gifts is fashioned on a similar premise of interconnectivity. Our business depends on the talents of local makers who themselves rely on the bounties of the region we inhabit. These bounties sustain us all, and we in turn protect and sustain them. This model of sustainable, community-centered commerce is at the root of what we do; values-based gifting is at the heart of it.

We acknowledge, with humility, that the land of our region today is the territory of the People of the Salish Sea. Their presence is imbued in the waterways, shorelines, valleys, and mountains of these traditional homelands of the Coast Salish People. May we nurture our relationship with our Coast Salish neighbors and uphold the shared responsibilities to their homelands where we all reside.

Kirsten with her gift boxes

This is Us

Hi! I’m Kirsten, the solopreneur behind Madrona Gifts. I started this business in the depths of the pandemic, when I had a strong desire to connect to my community and immerse myself in the things that matter. As I watched the global conglomerates unthinkingly snatch up an even greater share of the online marketplace, I knew there had to be a better way. Coming back to community was the answer for me: Promoting local goods made by local folks, shared in a sustainable way.

There’s a term for it: Conscious Consumption - the practice of making informed buying decisions that reflect one’s values and have a positive impact on society, the economy, and the environment. That is our goal here. Thank you so much for sharing in it.

Sharing the Bounty

We’re excited about sharing the bounty, not only in the wealth of flavors and talents from this region, but also in returns to our community. In addition to sourcing exclusively from local merchants, we dedicate a percentage of proceeds of our curated gift boxes to a variety of local social and environmental causes. You can see which cause each gift box supports in its description details and view a list of all organizations we support here. We strive to do well by doing good, for our partners, our community, and our planet.
